Strip Club Barker Ban in NOLA, Indiana Casinos Fear Competition and U.S. on Med. Marijuana
Barkers, the guys who stand on sidewalks or at an entrance calling for passersby to come inside and enjoy whatever, are the immediate salesmen for carnivals, sideshows and strip clubs. Without them, people could just keep on walking and not know the wonders that they might have missed.
If Amway or Mary Kay lost their salespeople or if UPS lost sales reps, Lots of Yuks lost its Times Square team (the people who constantly stop you to ask “Do you like comedy?” then try to sell you a comedy package of some sort) what would happen to the revenue?
It would probably decrease. Twenty-five years ago an ordinance was passed in New Orleans outlawing barkers in the French Quarter. In the recent past, enforcement has been lax. However, there is a new crackdown involving the city’s Alcohol Beverage Outlet Control Board and the New Orleans Police Department. One place was fined $500 and more may come.
