Jindal will meet with president
Gov. Bobby Jindal’s spokesman Kyle Plotkin said Friday that the governor plans to meet with President Barack Obama this week when the president visits New Orleans. Details of the visit have not been organized yet, he said.
Panel OKs funds for ULL fallen wall
A state panel agreed Friday to spend $310,000 to repair a collapsed wall on the University of Louisiana-Lafayette’s football stadium.
“This is a very high safety risk,” Jerry Jones with the Division of Administration told the state Interim Emergency Board.
State Rep. Jim Fannin, D-Jonesboro, questioned why the state should pay for the repairs.
He asked whether universities keep funds on hands for such problems.
“I realize they don’t want emergencies, but they happen,” Fannin said.
Jones said the university lacks the money to fix the stadium wall.
He said the area is being cordoned off until it can be repaired.
