New Orleans Adult Entertainment: OUR VIEW: Electronic bingo halls that have been deemed illegal in Alabama …
November 5, 2009
Remember, it’s not as if electronic bingo halls had no idea they were on treacherous legal ground. Indeed, those who have been profiting from electronic bingo (do we even know who they are?) knew from the beginning they were operating on the legal equivalent of the San Andreas Fault.
If nothing else has been clear in this long-running dispute over bingo, it’s that electronic bingo’s legal status is — yes — in dispute.
Yet purveyors of the games raced into this uncertain territory anyway and, by all accounts, profited wildly from it. Then, when called on it, they tried to use poor employees as a legal shield to stay in business. Shameful.
Don’t get us wrong: We feel for anyone losing a job in this economy. But nobody would argue that an illegal brothel should remain open to keep prostitutes employed. Likewise, if the bingo halls are not complying with the law, they shouldn’t expect to be kept open for the sake of employees.
