We still remember all the comments about Louisiana’s reputation for corruption made after Hurricane Katrina by those who were skeptical about spending federal money for recovery.
Critics wondered why those outside Louisiana should send billions to a state with such a checkered past.
This newspaper takes a back seat to no one in its distaste for corruption, and we readily admit Louisiana has had its problems in this regard. But we’re far from alone when it comes to scandal, as we’ve been reminded lately while following New York’s political scene.
Eliot Spitzer resigned as governor of New York in 2008 amid revelations he had been involved with prostitutes.
His replacement, Gov. David Paterson, recently withdrew from the race for a full term after allegations he used his influence to shape the investigation of a close aide for assault, and that he lied under oath during an ethics investigation.
