Down in New Orleans for a business convention he invited Vivian to, the silently grieving Doug sneaks off into a seedy strip club and, to avoid being seen by work acquaintances, goes upstairs for a private lap dance from a young woman named Mallory (Kristen Stewart). Doug doesn’t want the dance nor any of the prostitutional services Mallory offers. In trying just to talk to her, Doug scares off and angers Mallory. The two reunite in brighter lighting at a nearby seafood joint. More at ease there, they resume their talking, which leads to a ride home to a rough neighborhood and Doug actually spending the night at Mallory’s house, where the power has been turned off.

Jake brings a steady hand to Welcome’s intimate, raw screenplay by Ken Hixon (Inventing the Abbotts, City by the Sea). Young and creepy ears might perk up at the sound of Kristen Stewart playing a teenaged stripper/hooker, but this isn’t a movie the slightest bit i …

The supernatural Western “Jonah Hex” — about a gunslinging bounty hunter with a grotesque facial scar — was nominated twice: In the category of worst actress, Meagan Fox’s performance as a pioneer prostitute earned a nod. And, with a touch of tongue-in-cheeck inspiration, a nomination in the category of worst couple went to ”Josh Brolin’s face and Meagan Fox’s accent.”

Mr. Cannizzaro noted that the warrant initiative will send a message to defendants that they won’t be able to skip court without consequences. When they are picked up, prosecutors will be able to seek higher bonds or no bond.
This effort dovetails with other major initiatives the Police Department has launched, including shifting away from automatically making arrests for traffic and other nonviolent offenses.
Superintendent Ronal Serpas said in December that officers would no longer arrest and book people they stop who have outstanding traffic or misdemeanor warrants from neighboring parishes, saying the old policy “simply does not make sense, economical or common.” That could mean a reduction of nearly 20,000 arrests this year.
Soon after, the City Council voted unanimously to give police officers discretion to write summonses for simple marijuana possession, prostitution, “flight from an officer” and “interfering with a law enforcement investigation.” The offenses can now be adjudicated in Municipal Court, which will leave more important matters on the docket at Criminal District Court.

Kenan Breaud, 36, was shot Monday several times as he ran down the hallway after answering the door to five men and conversing briefly with them, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported.
Felicia Hughes, 32, then was shot in the temple as she hid under the sheets on her bed, The Times-Picayune reported.
The boy, also named Kenan Breaud, ran into his mother’s room when he heard shots. She told him to lie down on the side of the bed and she was shot moments later. The child escaped injury.
Police said the slayings were apparently drug-related. They said they discovered narcotics in the home, and both parents had histories of drug arrests.
Police said Hughes had been arrested for prostitution, possession of crack cocaine in 2003, 2004 and 2005, and was wanted in South Carolina for marijuana possession.

Review: Belle by Lesley Pearse
Wednesday 19th January 2011 – 14:39:07
Lesley Pearse makes an outstanding return with her recent novel “Belle”.
Belle was raised in a brothel in London but despite her innocence being protected from the “activities upstairs”, it’s shattered when she witnesses a murder. She is snatched and sold to work in prostitution in Paris and then onto a “gaming house” in New Orleans, far from home.
It’s not long before she becomes home sick and decides to break out from her courtesan ways. However her hopes and dreams of owning her own hat shop are dashed once again when she must flee New Orleans and go back to Paris.
Pearse has once again struck the heart strings with a story about a woman whose courage and determination never ceases despite the down falls.

FoxThe next Justin Bieber? Okay, so this kid isn’t as skinny as the teen pop superstar. But Jacee Badeaux sure can sing. And he’s hoping to become the next American Idol.
We learned a few interesting things last night on “American Idol” . . .
(1) You don’t have to be skinny to sound like Justin Bieber.
(2) If you want your kid to be a great singer, don’t send him to Idol Camp.
(3) Idol contestant Jovany Barreto does a lot of crunches. And Randy Jackson doesn’t.
How do I know all that? I watched Episode 2 of Season 10, which featured auditions that took place in New Orleans back in October. The show included a mini-strip tease that almost had me turning off my TV set, and another sob story that brought J-Lo to tears. (no surprise there)

I—like many New Orleanians who hadn’t traveled much as a youngster—perceived Bourbon Street as the ultimate “sin city” because of its reputation for becoming a street of strippers (notice I said strippers, not “exotic dancers” or “burlesque”). Imagine my immense surprise (I was in my twenties) when on a trip to Colorado, my boyfriend took me to a so-called “strip club.” The young lady performing didn’t wear pasties (like they were required to in New Orleans). This chick was nude. But she was also really pretty—if I remember correctly—and she was a great exotic dancer. Oh what a shocker to a naïve little southern girl like me! I remember thinking at the time that Bourbon Street was going to have to have a game change because the rest of the country had learned Bourbon’s tricks and actually improved on them!

According to parish prosecutors, on July 29 Bickham’s girlfriend called 911 on her cell phone and reported that Bickham had threatened to kill himself while wielding a handgun. St. Tammany Parish sheriff’s deputies showed up at the Slidell-area home, searched around and found a pistol behind the girlfriend’s fence, in the neighbor’s yard.
Bickham, the state alleged, uttered to a deputy that he pitched the gun over the fence. Deputies determined that he had been on probation since pleading guilty on April 13, 2009, to possessing cocaine, and they booked him with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
During the trial, Rachel Yazbeck, Bickham’s defense attorney, denied that her client ever held the gun or ever admitted that he did. It belonged to Bickham’s stripper girlfriend, who carried it to protect herself while leaving the eastern New Orleans club where she worked, Yazbeck told jurors.
