New Orleans Strip Clubs: Once tough guy, now nurturer
October 31, 2010
… What the hell is happening now?” James Gandolfini asked, not quite smiling, at the start of an interview last week. Gandolfini is not big on interviews; journalists who mention his most famous role, playing the mob boss Tony Soprano, get swatted away. “I never think about him, ever,” Gandolfini, 49, said.
But some projects are worth talking about. For HBO, he is an executive producer of “Wartorn: 1861-2010,” a documentary about the history of post-traumatic stress in the military which makes its premiere on Nov. 11. In his next film, “Welcome to the Rileys,” a dark indie opening Friday, Gandolfini is a businessman with a fractured family who befriends a stripper, played by Kristen Stewart (equally touchy about her star-making turn in the “Twilight” series). The film, the second feature from Jake Scott (son of Ridley), was shot on location in New Orleans, one of Gandolfini’s favorite cities.

New Orleans Adult Entertainment: Vitter’s conservative message and anti-Obama stance give him double-digit lead
October 31, 2010
Vitter was a rising star in the national GOP until his own sex scandal — he acknowledged a “serious sin” in 2007 after he was linked by phone records to a Washington prostitution ring run by the so-called “D.C. Madam.”
Further muddying his image was news last summer that he kept an aide on his payroll for more than two years after the aide’s arrest in an attack on a girlfriend.
Vitter generally avoids situations where he might be questioned about either subject. When he filed for re-election in July, he walked away from reporters who pressed him about the aide’s duties.
A debate Thursday night provided reporters with a rare opportunity to question Vitter about the prostitution allegations. Asked repeatedly whether he had broken the law with regard to his own admission, Vitter wouldn’t say.
New Orleans Adult Entertainment: Congressional campaign had its share of comic relief: Stephanie Grace

CHRIS GRANGER / THE TIMES-PICAYUNE U.S. Senate candidates Charlie Melancon, left, and David Vitter, right, get ready to go live during their debate at the WWL studios in New Orleans on Thursday, October 28, 2010.
Like most campaign seasons, the one that’s finally drawing to a close was dominated by big themes, spirited policy discussions and harsh, personal attacks.
And like most, the season also gave us its share of oddities and downright curiosities. So before we all head into the voting booth, here are a few of this season’s odder and more curious:
Scene-stealing cameo: Before last week’s long-awaited televised U.S. Senate debates, the burning question was whether Democratic U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon would manage to capitalize on Republican incumbent David Vitter’s dalliance with a Washington prostitution ring, despite having spent a career as a self-styled family values crusader.

New Orleans Strip Clubs: Kristen Stewart in WELCOME TO THE RILEYS: No "Bella Does New Orleans"
October 29, 2010
Jake Scott’s Welcome to the Rileys, written by Ken Hixon, and starring James Gandolfini, Melissa Leo, and Kristen Stewart, is no “Bella Does New Orleans,” despite being known in some circles as “Kristen Stewart’s Stripper Movie.”
Stewart’s reviews have been mostly positive, though without being necessarily enthusiastic. There have also been some — quite loud — naysayers who insist she can’t act.
Below are a few review snippets from various publications. Two more posts featuring Stewart’s Welcome to the Rileys reviews will follow shortly.

“Kristen Stewart sheds her Twilight image in this gritty drama, playing a New Orleans stripper and prostitute in a performance that screams ‘take me seriously.’ While she achieves her goal — perfecting every tic and hair fling of this bruised 16-year-old runaway — the rest of the movie falls short.” Thelma Adams, US Magazine.
New Orleans Adult Entertainment: Despite heat over salacious scandals, David Vitter cruising toward reelection
October 29, 2010
A recent headline in the New Orleans Times-Picayune neatly sums up the frustrations of many on the left: “Democrats mystified by David Vitter’s popularity 3 years after prostitute scandal.”
Yes, against seemingly all odds, the man who for years portrayed himself as a family-values conservative only to become embroiled in a prostitution scandal, and who recently was caught employing a staffer with an extensive criminal history, including violence against women, is enjoying a comfortable double-digit lead in the polls heading into Tuesday’s primary, according to the most recent polls.
…
And yesterday the Melancon camp began running a much more direct new ad titled “Sins.” In this spot, the voiceover starts out: “Our tax dollars pay David Vitter’s salary, and he used it for prostitutes. You’re welcome, Senator.” It concludes by saying, “The real sin, is that David Vitter is still a Senator.” You can watch the ad below:

Mysterious substance is Algae, not oil Scientists from Louisiana State University concluded that an orange substance that spread for miles across the near-shore Gulf of Mexico last week was algae, not oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The algae contained only trace amounts of hydrocarbons from routine surface pollution. Local fishers and captains of BP clean-up crews had said that the orange substance looked and smelled like oil from the spill.

Vitter won’t discuss links to prostitution ring

VIDEO: Melancon ad claims public $$ paid prostitutes With five days to go until the election, and trailing by double-digits in the polls, Democratic Senate candidate Charlie Melancon is going right after the front-runner’s most public problem. In a new TV ad, the Melancon campaign alleges Vitter used his taxpayer-funded salary to pay for prostitutes, protect an aid from assault charges, and made phone calls to D …Read More
Next up comes yet another complicated story – a husband who’s been cheating on his wife with male prostitutes and falls in love with one of them. Jacob (played by Rockmond Dunbar who I also love over on Terrers) gets into a car accident with the man and after standard blood tests they find out both of them are HIV positive. What I liked about the way they dealt with this subject is that they didn’t automatically peg the guy as a horrible person for cheating and move on to another story. They actually sat him down to talk with him and got him to understand what he did so that he could come to terms with who he was and do the right thing and tell his wife. Doing it that way I think made it easier on everyone, rather than just throwing blame around. They made the guy responsible for his actions and I like that.
