If you missed the dramatic trailer for Welcome to the Rileys, then you missed an important moment in the career of Kristen Stewart. There’s some worthwhile acting in this trailer (watch it now), as Stewart portrays a young stripper and prostitute who collides with a man (James Gandolfini) running away from a tragedy that has driven a wedge between he and his wife, and later that man’s wife when she appears, too. Is this Stewart’s time to garner critical acclaim? The film debuted at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, but I’m sure more reviews will come out on and around November 5, when it sees a limited release.

… Louisiana voters will get to choose between the current Obama policies of endless bailouts, failed stimulus, massive debt, and government-dominated health care, represented by Charlie Melancon, or the common sense conservative alternatives I’ve been advocating,” it said.
Vitter campaign spokesman later said that Vitter has agreed to debate Melancon in late October at a New Orleans television station.
With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Vitter had 84,645 votes, 88 percent, in the Republican contest — in which only Republicans could vote — against retired state Supreme Court Justice Chet Traylor with 7 percent and physician Nick Accardo with 5 percent.
Melancon had 73,730 votes, 70 percent of those cast, in the Democratic primary, open to Democrats and independents, against Neeson Chauvin, with 19 percent, and Cary Deaton, with 12 percent.
The Senate primary marked Vitter’s first election since a 2007 prostitution scandal and more recent questions about his judgment in handling the employment of the aide.
… Spending is out of control, our taxes are too high and the government is far too involved in our everyday lives. Each step of the way, Charlie Melancon has been a consistent vote for this reckless Obama agenda,” Vitter said Monday in a fundraising e-mail.
Aside from describing Vitter as ineffective, Melancon has showcased another campaign theme that attempts to cast Vitter as “hostile to women.”
Melancon’s campaign ads have already mentioned the 2007 scandal that erupted when Vitter’s phone number was linked to a Washington call girl ring; Vitter admitted only to a “serious sin” but won’t answer questions about it. More recent news that Vitter kept on his staff for two years an aide accused of a violent attack on a woman have also been part of the campaign, along with a Vitter vote against an equal pay law.
Vitter issued a statement continuing a major theme of his campaign – that Melancon is too liberal. “Louisiana voters will get to choose between the current Obama policies of endless bailouts, failed stimulus, massive debt, and government-dominated health care, represented by Charlie Melancon, or the common sense conservative alternatives I’ve been advocating,” it said.
With 88 percent of precincts reporting, Vitter had 88 percent of the vote in the Republican contest against retired state Supreme Court Justice Chet Traylor with 7 percent and physician Nick Accardo with 5 percent.
Melancon had 68 percent in the Democratic primary against Neeson Chauvin, with 19 percent, and Cary Deaton, with 12 percent.

New Orleans Adult Entertainment: Light turnout expected in Louisiana party primaries – 10:34 am
August 28, 2010
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Some of the campaigns were heated but voter interest appeared light for Saturday’s congressional party primaries in Louisiana.
The only statewide races were for Senate nominations. Incumbent David Vitter was expected to easily win in the Republican primary, as was his likely Democratic opponent for the November general election, Rep. Charlie Melancon.
Vitter, who faced retired state Supreme Court Justice Chet Traylor and the little-known Nick Accardo, planned to watch returns at home with family, friends and staff, his spokesman said. Melancon, facing Neeson Chauvin and Cary Deaton, planned a French Quarter party with supporters.
The Senate primary marked Vitter’s first election since his 2007 prostitution scandal and more recent questions about his judgment in keeping an aide on staff for more than two years after the man violently attacked a woman.
… Nobody understands why it had the universal appeal, except for its overblownness and the family friction,” said Rhoda Faust, who worked with Thelma Toole to get “Dunces” published.
But, Faust said, its success wasn’t surprising: “Humor translates,” she said. “The people within ‘A Confederacy of Dunces’ are going through the same things other people and their families are going through.”
Besides, Faust said, “This captures New Orleans better than anything else on the face of the earth ever has.”
Faust, who owned Maple Street Book Shop then, said she sold “a zillion” copies.
The book unleashed a horde of memorable characters upon the world, including Irene Reilly, Ignatius’ long-suffering mother; Santa Battaglia, one of her friends; Burma Jones, the janitor at the Night of Joy strip club; and the aged, embittered Miss Trixie, who wants nothing more than to be allowed to retire from her job at Levy Pants.

New Orleans Escorts: Dems aim for US House
August 28, 2010
NEW ORLEANS Four black Democrats will vie Saturday for a chance to reclaim a U.S. House seat in a mostly black, mostly Democratic district won two years ago by a soft-spoken Vietnamese-American Republican.
Anh “Joseph” Cao is unopposed for the GOP nomination, leaving him free to prepare for a November general election and prove his 2008 defeat of scandal-hobbled Democrat William Jefferson was no fluke.
The four Democrats hoping to face Cao in November are state Rep. Cedric Richmond, who leads in money raising and has the endorsement of Mayor Mitch Landrieu; state Rep. Juan Lafonta; Gary Johnson, a young political newcomer; and Eugene Green, who was an aide to Jefferson, the once-powerful congressman who is appealing a conviction on federal corruption charges.
Other primary contests include U.S. Sen. David Vitter’s first electoral test since his 2007 prostitution scandal and new questions about his employment of an aide with a criminal past.

Prostitution, drugs and more among Bossier arrests

…
Bossier Sheriff’s investigators said the agency’s undercover narcotics agents bought drugs from Mathews, Echols and Moore at various times during the investigation. On several occasions, Mathews and Nichols offered to provide prostitutes for the agents.
…
Mathews, Echols and Moore often provided their fares with drugs, while Mathews and Echols also sometimes provided prostitutes. Bossier Sheriff’s investigators say the owner of Action Taxi was unaware of the illegal activities that Mathews and Moore were conducting in the cabs.
So far, the Bossier Sheriff’s Office, under court seizure, has impounded fourteen taxi cabs and one limousine, and is in the process of attempting to seize Mathews’ residence and Moore’s residence. The vehicles and the houses are being seized because they were used in the illegal acquisition of revenue from drugs and prostitution. As the investigation continues, more seizures are expected.
