Lil Wayne’s farewell for now tour stops at the New Orleans Arena tonight
December 28, 2009, 12:00PM
It’s hard out there for a pimp — and Lil Wayne. In February, New Orleans’ homegrown superstar faces sentencing for a felony weapons charge. Possibly hoping to bank a milli or two before serving what is expected to be a one year sentence, Wayne scheduled a handful of concerts, including Monday’s homecoming at the New Orleans Arena — Weezy’s second headlining appearance at the venue in less than a year.
But his farewell-for-now tour has hit a bump or two along the road. In south Texas last week — Wayne’s team booked him into such secondary markets as Corpus Christi and Laredo — U.S. Border Patrol agents allegedly found pot on the rapper’s tour bus. (Perhaps, noted one wag, he was en route to visit Willie Nelson, the Lone Star State’s most famous smoker.) Wayne and his crew were briefly detained, and the Laredo concert was postponed at the last minute.

New Orleans Escorts: The Year Before The Flood: The Ponderosa Stomp
December 31, 2009
I hadn’t had this much fun in . . . well, maybe since Mardi Gras. Upstairs in front of the bowling lanes, I saw Classie Ballou, from Baton Rouge and now living in Waco, playing a Gibson SG just like mine. I’d never heard of him before, but I recognized the riff he played when he started doing “Just a Little Bit,” It was the guitar lick the Beatles used at the beginning of “Birthday.” Classie Ballou was the guy who came up with that lick, playing with Rosco Gordon on “Just a Little Bit.” Herbert Hardesty, best known as Fats Domino’s longtime sax man, was onstage with him.
And up came Rudy Ray Moore, better known as Dolemite, the dirty-talking comedian from party records and, later, blaxploitation films. He came onstage looking like a pimp from one of the lesser southern cities, resplendent in rhinestone-studded shades and ceremonially encrusted walking cane.
New Orleans Escorts: A ‘Bad Lieutenant,’ Cage’s crooked cop gets bent out of shape
December 30, 2009
At least McDonagh, unlike Keitel’s “Bad Lieutenant,” has a reasonable excuse for being all bent out of shape, figuratively and literally. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, he suffers a debilitating back injury when he jumps into a flooded jail to rescue a prisoner from drowning in a locked cell. The resulting pain is so excruciating that McDonagh plows through the rest of “Port of New Orleans” at a tilt, his posture twisted right along with his ethics, and doing everything he can to numb his gaunt self.
Packing his huge handgun in the front of his belt, Terrence has a girlfriend (Eva Mendes) who’s a prostitute; a multiple, drug-related homicide that he’s know is the work product of a powerful kingpin, street name Big Fate (played well by the rapper Xzibit) in the white-powder trade; and all kinds of problems with his bookie (Brad Dourif), alcoholic father (Tom Bower), and drunken stepmother (Jennifer Coolidge).

Coroner says stripper was murdered
(AP) NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans coroner says a woman found dead under strange circumstances inside a vacant building in July was murdered.
Coroner Frank Minyard says Angela Erin Ball, a 29-year-old mother of four who worked as an exotic dancer on Bourbon Street, bled to death from several stab wounds on her neck and wrist.
Police have no suspects or motive in the slaying. The classification of Ball’s death pushed the city’s 2009 murder toll to at least 171, according to The Times-Picayune’s records.

A woman found dead under strange circumstances inside a vacant Mid-City building in July was murdered, the Orleans Parish coroner determined Monday. Angela Erin Ball, a 29-year-old mother of four who worked as an exotic dancer on Bourbon Street, bled to death from several stab wounds on her neck and wrist, Coroner Frank Minyard said. Pathologists also found bruises and brush burns on her face, neck, hip and left shoulder, indicating that Ball’s attacker beat her and dragged her in the process of knifing her to death, Minyard said.
…
Ball eventually landed a job as a stripper at a club in Liberal, Kan. In 2008, she started a relationship with a patron named Jarrod Frosch, 40, of Marrero, who was in Kansas to care for his ill mother.

New Orleans Escorts: SPECIAL SUNDAY EDITION: Florida’s Meyer resigns amid health concerns (with video)
December 27, 2009
Crowley Maritime Services spokesman Jim Butler says his company’s tug arrived under tow into Valdez early Sunday morning.
He says crews will now work determine how much diesel fuel spilled into the bay after the Pathfinder ran aground on Wednesday.
Butler says they hope to have an answer late Sunday but it could take longer to examine all materials used in cleaning up the spill to make that calculation.
The Coast Guard says that two of its tanks — containing an estimated 33,500 gallons of diesel fuel — were damaged.
On two separate occasions, diesel fuel sheens of one mile and three miles spread across the waters, but officials say no animals were injured and the fuel didn’t reach land.
The boat is part of a ship escort service created after the Exxon Valdez spilled nearly 11 million gallons of oil in 1989.

New Orleans Escorts: Eva Mendes on Werner Herzog, ‘Bad Lieutenant’
December 26, 2009
Eva Mendes plays a hooker with a heart of gold in “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” a Werner Herzog drama starring Nicolas Cage as an unhinged, crack-smoking post-Katrina cop. She’s his girlfriend, a fellow addict. And she is, in some ways, one of the most level-headed characters in the movie.
“I just saw her as a flawed person. I didn’t really see her as anything else when I first signed on,” says Mendes, on the phone from Los Angeles during a recent press event.
“I was planning on going for it: a prostitute who’s addicted to drugs and co-dependent on some guy who’s addicted to drugs – and a rogue cop! It was amazing to me. But Werner was very careful and didn’t want me to play to stereotype. He wanted me to be very elegant. I disagreed with that. The trained actress in me – the actress who still goes to class and takes my craft very seriously – I wanted to go darker and deeper and dirtier.”
New Orleans Escorts: A cop who’s bad to the bone
December 22, 2009
I’d just about given up on Cage, tagging the former Oscar-winner as an actor who appears mostly in the kind of big-ticket movies that have words such as “National Treasure” in the title. But Cage gives his chops a real workout in Bad Lieutenant.
For his part, Herzog — whose career includes both features (Nosferatu and Fitzcarraldo) and documentaries (Grizzly Man and Encounters at the End of the World) — comes closer to mixing his sensibilities with a straightforward story than he did in 2006’s exciting but more conventional Rescue Dawn.
Part genre exercise and part goof, Bad Lieutenant revolves around Cage’s performance, which is every bit as insane as his character. As a homicide detective with back problems, Cage’s McDonagh snorts cocaine, has a prostitute for a girlfriend, steals drugs from people he threatens with arrest, fraternizes with murderers and smokes a fair amount of pot.
New Orleans Strip Clubs: Tiger Let His Entourage Do His Dirty Work
December 22, 2009
Well this isn’t a surprise!
It seems Tiger Woods, now known to have countless mistresses, always appeared like a shy “virgin to strip clubs” – so says his former manager – and used his handlers to meet women, reports the NY Post…
Tiger had multiple protectors, including hunky caddy Steve Williams and his IMG agent Mark Steinberg. And while out on the town, Tiger never approached potential lovers himself. Rather, he had his entourage do it for him!
Shy? Maybe. But I guess being shy didn’t hold Tiger back!

New Orleans Adult Entertainment: Louisiana Has Big Stake in Health Bill
December 19, 2009
Nevertheless, because of this formula, the federal share of Louisiana’s Medicaid costs is expected to drop around 10 percentage points by 2011, which state officials say could add up to $500 million a year.
“It’s something that will make you stop breathing just to think about it,” Mr. Levine said.
In late November, on the eve of her key vote allowing the Senate health care proposal to proceed, Ms. Landrieu won a provision that would bring $300 million into the state to help with this Medicaid shortfall.
Many state Republicans, including Mr. Jindal, have stayed conspicuously quiet on the matter, even as national conservative figures criticized Ms. Landrieu. The broadcasters Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh called her a prostitute, prompting the state Democratic Party, perhaps loath to miss a chance to use the word prostitute in the same sentence with Senator David Vitter, to demand that Mr. Vitter repudiate the broadcasters’ comments.
